【History】
Aomori Prefecture’s history dates back to the Paleolithic period, an astonishing 30,000 years ago.
During the Jomon period, large settlements such as the Sannai-Maruyama Ruins were established, and a culture of living in harmony with abundant nature flourished.
During the Edo period, the Hirosaki Domain constructed a port town in what is now Aomori City, and it is said that the “blue forest” served as a landmark for ships, hence the name “Aomori.”
Subsequently, the domain governments of the Tsugaru and Nanbu clans nurtured the region’s culture, and from the Meiji period onwards, the area developed as a gateway to Hokkaido.
