Hello, how are you all doing? Here we will introduce delicious food from Japan.
【history】
The roots of oden are said to trace back to “dengaku,” which was eaten around the Muromachi period. At that time, it was a dish where tofu or konnyaku was skewered, coated with miso, and grilled.
By the Edo period, it evolved from grilled dengaku to a “simmered style,” and “simmered oden,” cooked in broth instead of miso, appeared. It spread along with the street food culture, and from the Meiji to Taisho periods, particularly in the Kanto region, it was also called “Kanto-daki.”
Since the Showa period, it has become established as home-cooked food, and today it is enjoyed throughout Japan as a “winter tradition,” available in convenience stores and specialty shops alike.
